Tribunal accepts Mir Quasem’s plea

Mir Kashem Ali2Dhaka, 31 July, Abnews : The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today accepted a petition of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali, seeking permission for having privilege communication with his counsels in jail. Accepting a plea of Quasem, the tribunal on July 25 allowed the treasurer of Jamaat-e-Islami to have privilege communication with his counsels Barrister Tanvir Ahammed Al Amin and Barrister.

Ahmad Bin Quasem on July 28 and August 1. However today advocate Abu Bakar Siddiqui, a counsel for Quasem, in his petition said they could not have the privilege communication with their client on July 28 as the order of the tribunal, in this matter, did not reach the jail authorities on time.

The defence counsel pleaded for setting August 4 as the new date to have the privilege communication with their client. Accepting the petition, the ICT-1 asked the concerned defence counsel to take a copy of tribunal’s new order in this regard with him today.

Accused of committing crimes against humanity as an Al-Badr leader in Chittagong region, Mir Quasem was arrested on June 17, 2012 from daily Naya Diganta office in the city’s Motijheel area and is kept at Kashimpur High Security Jail.
