Press Council Act to be made time-befitting : Inu

Dhaka, 12 June, Abnews : Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, today said the Press Council Act will be made time- befitting during the tenure of present government after making some necessary amendments to the law. I will take initiative to bring some amendments to Press Council Act to make it time befitting during the tenure of this government with a view to strengthening the council, he said this while addressing a one-day workshop titled Principles of Journalism, Responsibility and Ethics as the chief guest at Press Council auditorium here.

With Press Council member Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, in the chair, Acting Information Secretary Martuza Ahmed spoke on the occasion. Press Council Chairman Justice BK Das inaugurated the workshop in the morning. It is necessary to make the Press Council Act time befitting as the journalists can use the law as safeguard to pursue objective journalism ignoring the redeye of owners, said, Inu, also President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal.

The minister also informed that his ministry will soon take initiative to hold a workshop comprising 1400 journalists of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in assistance with Information Commission to make them aware about the details on Right to Information Act. He, later, distributed certificates among 25 journalists of different print and electronic media, who took part in the workshop.
