The cabinet has expressed the same opinion with Eighth Wage Board for raising the wages of the journalists and newspaper employees, and formed a cabinet committee to implement its recommendation, additional secretary Khandakar M Iftekher Haider said while briefing reporters after the meeting at Bangladesh secretariat.

He said, Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kamal Azad will lead the committee while ministers for information, home, communication, environment and forests and state minister for housing and public works will be the members. The committee will submit report to the government within one month and after approval by the government the wage board award will be executed, he said. In this regard, Haider said, the committee will follow the terms of reference (ToR) that was set for the Fifth Wage board in 1997.

The cabinet also approved in principle the draft of Paira Seaport Authority Act 2013 aimed at construction of a seaport at Kalapara in Patuakhali. The government has planned for construction of the port under public-private participation (PPP). Under the proposal a detailed feasibility study will be conducted for construction of the sea port. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on December 15, 2012 assured that a sea port will be constructed at Paira, Haider said.
